Tourists who have taken a vacation to Japan, Sakura, may someone have bought or used a Suica or Pasmo electronic card? Its functions are also varied for electronic money storage media, ticket purchases and payments to transactions in mini markets.

Behind the versatile electronic card, there is a sophisticated system called FeliCa made by Sony Japan technology company. When the 2019 MRT Fellowship program last week, detikcom with media partners also had a chance to visit his office in Tokyo, Japan.

Arriving at his office, the Sony Japan also gave a brief presentation about the FeliCa system that was implemented behind Japanese sophisticated electronic cards.

"FeliCa is used for electronic cards in Japan, as access control," said Yosuke Kobayashi of Sony's Business Development Department for the Southeast Asian market.

Technically, FeliCa is an extension of Felicity Card or contactless IC card technology. FeliCa is widely applied to RFID smart cards or electronic cards in Japan and a number of countries including Indonesia via the Jakarta MRT card. The advantages are also very diverse.

"High processing speed, a very high level of security (Level 6 aka the highest level), multifunction, in addition to employee cards can be for e-money, and in addition to cards can also be applied for smart watches," said Yosuke.

In Japan itself, the FeliCa system has been applied by a number of modes of transportation such as trains and planes, as well as being accepted by a number of tenants who serve electronic payments.

Interestingly again, the FeliCa system has also been integrated with mobile phones to the smart watch through the application. So if you don't bring an electronic card, your cellphone to a smart watch with related applications can also be used as a substitute for a card.

"FeliCa can be put into various media, it can also be put into a key chain (in Hong Kong)," Yosuke added.
